Weekend Music: Broken English - Marianne Faithfull

Marianne's brilliant comeback song and the controversial video directed by Derek Jarman from 1979.

Lose your father, your husband, your mother, your children. What are you dying for? It's not my reality...

Wow. I'd never seen this. I've heard some of her music (and Brenda is really into her--in fact, Brenda used to be an underground writer for the punk music scene). But me? In 1979 I was listening to the Bee Gees, Earth Wind & Fire and Crosby, Stills Nash & Young--so I was a bit eclectic, but not this much. Thanks for the music history lesson. She's amazing. I read more about her on wiki.

Fantastic video! I love someone daring enough to risk controvery to make a statement. I just put a vid of Cat Stevens into the bulletin system on myspace this morning, with comments about hearing him sing his 'I aint't marching anymore' during a peace rally in the seventies...talk about sychonicity.

Collin..MAJOR brain fart this morning. I posted Cat Stevens but had Phil Ochs on my mind when I announced his premature death. Egads. Had a dozen messages in my mailbox there. Anyway, the story I just posted to you was about Phil Ochs. Gads.

I need to listen to her more. Recommend a couple of her CDs.
