LONDON HERE I COME: I bought my plane ticket to London over the weekend. British Airways started its late summer sale and I managed to get a round trip for about $560. I thought that was pretty damn good. I still have to figure out my hotel situation. I'm definitely staying at the Tavistock for the weekend, since all the folks coming for the annual Kate Bush meet up are lodging there. Afterwards, I might move over to the Elysee across from Hyde Park. It's smaller and cheaper. I might also stay with friends for a night or so. The pound is very strong, so I'm gonna have to be frugal over the next couple of months until I leave in November to conserve cash.

I'm still working on the series of poems about Memphis and the way it's looking now, this might either be a chapbook or maybe a book-length poem divided into sections. I am intrigued by trying to tell the story of my summer in Memphis this way. Today at work I was in the middle of working on a story, listening to Roisin Murphy on iTunes and a memory of something that happened in Memphis popped into my mind. I opened a new email message, wrote the first draft and mailed it to myself. I love when they come so quickly.

You should get you a sugar daddy on that trip so paying for the hotel is someone else's problem! ; )

Sounds like fun! I wish I was going, too!
Nothing as gorgeous as when the poems keep coming... Julie

That's a great deal on the ticket. We wouldn't have come over in high tourist season (drizzly Summer that it is) but were offered to house-sit for a couple weeks - a.k.a. free lodging in a choice North London flat. Just bought some chocolate-covered Hobnobs down at Sainsbury's. They're still as good as you remember. The pound is pretty rough right now, but man - every minute is worth it.

Have a ball!
Hey Collin, Can't remember how long you're staying, but might you be interested in giving a reading for a small poetry cafe thing (on a Friday evening) in Lewes? If so, I'll email you with details (fee, etc.).
