Weekend Music: Two For Joni Mitchell

Joni Mitchell -- one of my musical goddesses -- is back with a brilliant new album called Shine. In honor of that, here's Joni doing a fab version of "Big Yellow Taxi" from the concert Painting With Words Music. At the end of the song, she playfully adds the line "why you wanna go and do that, huh?" which is a reference to the Janet Jackson and Q-Tip song "Got 'Til It's Gone," which samples "Big Yellow Taxi." One of Janet's finest moments and the video by Mark Romanek is gorgeous.

Joni Mitchell never lies...

Still amazing, Joni Mitchell(remember that old album cover with her -- in B/W-- with her lips pursed, cheeks hollowed out like canyons, smoke swirling around her)....I love all those female singer-songwriters from the 1970's--Joan Baez
(remember her anthem for Bob Dylan? "Diamonds & Rust"Wow.), Carly Simon, Carole King....
Joni is red-hot!

Thanks Coll!

did you catch Joni's poem in the New Yorker a few weeks ago? Kind of a yawner imho . . . plus its inclusion seemed a bit "celebrity-culture" driven . . . but I'll check out the cd . . .
Great voice. Blue is on my short list.

LOVE her.

Did you know this song was inspired by a trip she took to Hawaii? The "pink hotel" in the song is the Royal Hawaiian (which I saw this summer).
