Obamarama & Other Notes

On Tuesday night, Obama clinched the Democratic nomination for president. Tonight, he's apparently meeting with Hillary to discuss the "future." Hopefully that future includes her being his running mate. I think it would be a total slam dunk, but Bill Clinton needs to be muzzled for the next four years and six months. I hope Obama makes that one of his conditions for Hilly being veep. There's already a website up called VoteBoth.com urging Obama and Hillary to be running mates. Like I said, I'm voting forever has the (D) next to their name. My slogan is "Anyone But McCain."

Friday -- that's tomorrow -- is the last day to pre-order After the Poison from Finishing Line Press. Thanks to all of you who have already, and if you've been waiting until the last minute, your time's up. Look to your left, click the link and you can order safely and securely with PayPal. After tomorrow, add $2 for shipping and handling. Books are expected to ship in early July.

Here's a bizarre rejection note. I submitted a synopsis of my novel, Conquering Venus, to Plain View Press in Austin and received this terse email today: Not what we do. Good luck. Ummm...okay. I actually though this press might be receptive since their submission guidelines said the press is "on the cutting edge of alternative publishing" and wanted stories with cultural diversity. Ah, well...

I think most of us sighed with relief when Obama finally clinched the nomination. Hillary's annoying delay in clearly acknowledging that fact suggests that she might not be the right person to run with Obama -- that it may not be the total slam dunk that it appears to be. She and her husband may have too (two?) big egos to play second & third fiddle to such an "upstart" as Obama. Having the Clintons there at his side could serious undermine the message of fundamental change that swept Obama to the nomination to begin with, and lend Obama's campaign an aura of phoniness. It would also imply a lack of confidence on the part of O. in his own leadership & mandate -- a ticket of two candidates, the winner and the one who almost won and very reluctantly settled into second spot, could send a rather mixed & confusing message to voters, particularly considering how the Clintons so deeply alienated the black community that is for O such a strong base of support. No, the more I reflect on it, the more such a pairing could be a disastrous idea... better to have a fresh & capable someone who would step up to that plate happily, another woman perhaps? -- and reinforce that message of change. (Of course, I could be proven completely wrong...we'll see the choice he takes, how they handle and "package" it)

I'm not saying it would be a perfect union politically, but there is movement and excitement in the US about the idea of having them on the ticket together. The press calls them "the dream team" and it's stuck with many voters out there despite the real world ramifications. However, if it excited and unifies voters on Nov. 4 -- then bring it on. Anyone but McCain!

"i think Obama gave Hillary a pitty fuck during that secret meeting."

LOL!

What has me puzzled is why so many Hillary fans are threatening to vote for McSame. I mean, Obama and Hil are 90% the same on the issues.

I think people are worried about the monopoly of Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton(?). I'm not sure if going with her is the best thing, but I'd be jazzed if he did, personally.

What a WEIRD rejection letter! You should send it to Literary Rejections (a blog--the link is on the left on my site).

For some reason, I am completely at a Loss on the Hilary appeal. I mean, could anyone project a less sincere personality, contradict herself more, and be less gracious? I am not trying to be contradictory here. I'm actually sincerely puzzled.

Tara, many people feel the same about her. She is a politician after all. Many don't like Obama either. But either of them is head and shoulders above McCain.

Collin, here in Europe there is real excitement mounting about Obama too - an innate leader, he's got what it takes, I reckon ...but was just reading some comments from folk in places such as West Virginia etc and there way of looking on him is pretty scary - I think he needs Hillary to get the white working class vote. I'd like to see the 'dream ticket' too but with chrystal clear rules laid down for the extent of Clinton involvement. : )

Why do you think it is first-name-Hillary and not first-name-Barack or first-name-John?

I've always thought that was curious, and wondered what, if any, influence that has had.

Good question, Jilly. Maybe it's because we've known Hillary longer and we don't want to confuse her with husband Bill. Obama just rolls off the tongue more easily than Barack.

Colin--thanks for the reminder to stop focusing on petty irritations and differences and look to what really matters.

I'm with you. (D) all the way!!! Clinton asked her followers (I am one) to vote for Obama, so I will (as thought I'd vote for the old white dude if she hadn't). LOL And I'm grabbing your picture to put on my blog. Your Obama picture not your you picture.

I would like to see Clinton as the VP candidate.
Your commenter, Brian Campbell is dead-on when he speaks about why it could be disastrous to pair the two of them......I think Hillary is great on some things, but I hope Obama goes with whoever he TRULY feels is best. Certainly Hillary has done much hard work, but I think she's still a lightning rod. I think if Obama went with Chris Dodd, we could get the "old white guy vote"(and there are ALOT of them! sigh.) that John McCain is getting.Or how about Bill Richardson, of New Mexico?I guess this sounds awful, but it's a fact--we WON'T get those votes, with Hillary.But..
I think if Obama picks any other woman, though, it'd be a real slap-in-the-face to Hillary. If he's ggoing to select a woman, it HAS to be her.
Ya better believe John McCain is going to wait to announce a VP, because I think if Obama picks a man, John McCain will then pick a woman. Can you say (ugh!) Condelezza Rice? Some say he's considering selecting that woman who started e-bay(because she's got business(translation" economic prowess) and she's "fresh", not "political")
I'm with you, Coll--whoever has the "D" next to their name, gets my vote!
