See you on the flip-side, Jerry

Jerry Reed died on Monday from complications of emphysema at the age of 71. He was a multi-Grammy Award winner, wrote hits for himself and countless other artists, but he's best known for playing Cledus Snow in Smokey and The Bandit. It remains one of my favorite movies, mainly because when I was a kid they filmed the majority of it not far from where I lived. I clearly remember driving down Highway 54 between Jonesboro and Fayetteville (where they filmed many of the chase scenes) and seeing Burt Reynolds and Sally Field sitting in the Trans-Am getting ready to film a scene and Jerry Reed standing next to his big rig with that adorable basset hound, Fred. Here's Jerry singing his signature tune from the movie, Eastbound and Down
