Fourth of July bits

I'm typing this blog post from my new MacBook Air. Okay, I bought it used off eBay, but it's new to me. I got it for a great price and it's such a step up from the old plastic MacBook I've been using since 2007. The Air weighs practically nothing; it's like an iPad with a keyboard. Bliss. The old Mac is getting a software upgrade and will become my primary computer at the magazine.

Another milestone this week: I now have more than 4,000 followers on Twitter. It's gratifying to see so many people retweeting, responding and engaging on Twitter. I've made it my mission to provide good links and info about poetry, writing, publishing, eBooks and more. Thanks to everyone for the support. Follow me at @collinkelley.

Duotrope has a fantastic guide on response times from literary magazines. If you're planning to submit poetry, short stories, etc. this could be invaluable.

Without an hint of irony, Louisiana's moronic governor Bobby Jindal signed a budget eliminating state funding for public libraries. One of the reasons he cited for the cut: more money is needed for education. You can't make this stuff up.

And here I was hoping that Jindal's excuse was something from another nightmare. Truth, sadly, is stranger than fiction.

Congrats on your >4K twitter followers, and the AirBook!
