Mystery We Write Tour: Rionna Morgan

Growing up out West, Rionna Morgan followed her love of horses to the rodeo arena and her love of English to the classroom and to writing. The author of The Wanting Heart and Love's Justice, Rionna is also a founding member of Montana Romance Writers. She reads as much as she can possibly hold, and she loves combining the chilling edge of a knife with the sweet surrender of romance. Rionna shares her home in Missoula, Montana with her husband, her four children and the mountains outside her window. Find out more about Rionna and her books at chantingofmuses.blogspot.com.

What have you learned from writing your novels?
That I am more nosy that originally thought. I pay more attention to what people say and how they say it than ever before in my life. I don’t know it that’s making me a better listener or if it’s making my friends and family look at me oddly.

Do you have a "day job?" What is it and how do you write around it?
I was a middle school English teacher. Then I went back to school to get my masters in English. Now, I am a mother of four (ages 19, 9, 6 and 2). So basically, I am a midnight writer. Which I think is great. The hour lends itself well to the genre I write.

Do you have a writing routine or ritual?
I do. I play Celtic instrumental music, and I light three candles.

About Love's Justice
Sarah Johnson is a profiler in Portland, Oregon. She thinks she has successfully moved beyond the pain of her mother’s death 15 years ago. Her mother, a Pulitzer Prize-winning writer, died in an Alabama women’s prison while on an undercover assignment. However, when Justin Breslow shows up at her office claiming to be an investigative reporter from Dallas wanting to do a feature on her mother, Sarah realizes the pain has just been dormant. Sarah and Justin unravel a plot more complex and sinister than they expected. They pursue a trail of deceit and corruption to a women’s prison in Alabama, a centuries old hotel in Georgia and a family ranch in Texas.

Leave a comment to win a copy of Love's Justice. Winners will be selected at the end of the tour on Dec. 11.

Great answers Rionna. The key to being nosy is not letting others know you are being nosy or it gets uncomfortable. I pretend I'm making lists and really I'm writing bits of dialogue or description!

Love this interview. So much fun learning more about you, Rionna.
Rionna,
You're not nosy; you're a writer! If you didn't pay attention to what people say and do you wouldn't have anything to write about. :)

Thank you for the visit. I feel lost if I don't have my music playing. Crazy.

Will Henry, an award-winning author, once told me that writers are observers of life, rather than participants, and I found that to be true. Most of us sit on the sidelines watching, listening and recording what transpires around us.

Jake,

Thank you for stopping in! I love Will Henry too! His books along with those of Zane Grey and Louis L'Amour graced the bookshelves of my childhood home. What a wonderful memory. Thank you for the note.

All the Best,
Rionna
