RIP TERRI SCHIAVO: Terri Schiavo died this morning. My thoughts are with her family. However, the name-calling and lack of...ummm...let's call it "Christian sympathy" for Michael Schiavo, her husband, seems to be sorely lacking. Dubya made a statement sending condolences to the family, which I guess he sees as part of his base, although I hope now that Terri is dead, the Schindlers won't keep allowing their emotions to be dictated by the Christian right extremists who became their "advisors."
Dubya also said "millions are saddened" by Terri Schiavo's death, but since national polls on the issue said most favored her right to die, the sadness is also tempered by great relief. Of course, Dubya likes to inflate numbers, facts and just about everything else. I'm sure he wasn't too happy about that report released today on Iran that America was "dead wrong" on the WMD issue. He appointed the commission to uncover the facts and now they have. I'm sure he'll be attacking the panel very soon and calling them un-American, despite the fact he empowered them. Here's a few lines from the report:
"The daily intelligence briefings given to you before the Iraq war were flawed. Through attention-grabbing headlines and repetition of questionable data, these briefings overstated the case that Iraq was rebuilding its WMD programs. We conclude that the intelligence community was dead wrong in almost all of its prewar judgments about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction. This was a major intelligence failure."
I can't wait to see how Dubya, Condi and the likes of Sean Hannity try to spin this one. Terri Schiavo was a good distraction over the last few weeks as gas prices continued to soar, the situation in Iraq continued to deteriorate and CNN exposed the lack of any kind of control, or patrol, at our borders with Mexico and Canada.
