THE WIND IS WHISTLING... Hurricane Rita is now a Category 5 storm headed, apparently, for Galveston, Texas. My thoughts are with all those folks, and I'm glad to see traffic backed up as people evacuate. Galveston is basically a little island and a storm surge could totally wash it away, just like it did a century ago. I was worried the storm would turn and hit Louisiana again, which just could not handle it. While you don't want to wish the storm on anyone, I'm glad it appears to be moving west.
I got up at 4:30 in the morning yesterday to tune in to BBC Radio 2 via the Internet and met up with a bunch of other fans in the Kate chatroom for the premiere of her new single King of the Mountain. I have to admit getting a bit misty-eyed, probably from the early hour and the emotional moment of hearing the first new Kate song in 12 years. The song is brilliant...unlike anything else...as is the norm when Kate releases an album. There's some reggae influnce, some synth beats and of course her amazing voice. The lyrics pay homage to Elvis, Citizen Kane and the whole "cult of celebrity." Kate has been accused of being this insane reclusive figure, and this song seems to be an answer back to those tabloid critics. A welcome return. This is vital Kate Bush music!
King of the Mountain
Could you see the aisles of women?
Could you see them screaming and weeping?
Could you see the storm rising?
Could you see the guy who was driving?
Could you climb higher and higher?
Could you climb right over the top?
Why does a multi-millionaire
Fill up his home with priceless junk?
The wind is whistling
The wind is whistling
Through the house
Elvis are you out there somewhere
Looking like a happy man?
In the snow with Rosebud
And king of the mountain
Another Hollywood waitress
Is telling us she´s having your baby
And there´s a rumour that you´re on ice
And you will rise again someday
And that there´s a photograph
Where you´re dancing on your grave
The wind is whistling
The wind is whistling
Through the house
Elvis are you out there somewhere
Looking like a happy man?
In the snow with Rosebud
And king of the mountain
The wind it blows
The wind it blows the door closed

Would you do 40 backflips if Kate Bush used a poem of yours for a future song??? Imagine that!
Hell, you should try to send her some. :)
