WEEKEND UPDATE: We had a surprisingly good crowd from the Bloomsday event at Composition Gallery on Friday...standing room only actually. Some lovely readings, especially Rupert Fike reading from A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and Theatre Gael's actors performing selections from Finnegan's Wake and Ulysses. I read a section from Ulysses as well, a long passage from the section where Leopold Bloom finally meets Stephen Dedalus at the maternity hospital where Mina Purefoy is giving birth. The end of that section becomes a poetic ode to conception and childbirth. Hats off to Composition Gallery owner Ron Hughes for a great evening.
The Blondie concert was cancelled last night. Apparently, one of the members of The New Cars broke a bone and couldn't play, so they just scrapped the evening until sometime in the fall. I was going to dinner with Malory, but we were both too lazy to leave the house. I wound up watching two World Cup matches and making dinner. The referee in the USA vs. Italy (1-1) game should be banned from ever calling a game again. He ruined the play with too many unnecessary foul calls and eliminations. I also finally watched Walk the Line with Joaquin Phoenix playing Johnny Cash and Reese Witherspoon as June Carter. It was excellent. Great music...great performances. I recommend it.
Tonight is the release of the Java Monkey Speaks Anthology Vol. 2. If you're in Atlanta/Decatur come and join us!
