FIVE FOR WRITING - PART 1: Nick Bruno over at They Shoot Poets, Don't They tagged me for a meme that's right up my alley: Pick five songs that represent my poetic sensibilities. Since much of my inspiration comes from films and music, this meme was a pleasure. Rather than throw all five up at once, I'm doing this meme on the installment plan -- two today, two tomorrow and the final one on Monday along with who I'm tagging to keep the meme going.
Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks - Dreams
Stevie Nicks is one of the greatest poets of the 20th century. All the songs begin as poems in her notebooks. I mean, seriously, I can think of only a handful of poets who have ever come close to achieving anything as brilliant as the lyrics to Dreams.
Like a heartbeat, drives you mad...
In the stillness of remembering what you had...
And what you lost...
Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill
The live version from The Secret Policeman's Ball with David Gilmour on backing vocals and guitar. I'm still hoping to write anything that approaches the intensity and emotion of the lyrics to this song. Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks - Dreams

Comments
Of course her writing is stellar, but I fell in love with her big eyes, and big, full(late 1970's/early 1980's), streaked hair. Ah, youth!
I barged into this party since it looked like so much fun after reading it on first Sam's blog, then Nick's. I have my first one up today.
GAV
