Kate Bush at 50

My musical icon and muse, Kate Bush, turns 50 today. To mark the occasion, here's one of my favorite videos from her brilliant career, Hounds of Love. The BBC has done a min-retrospective to mark Kate's half-century with video clips, photos and interviews with those who have worked closely with her. Happy Birthday, Kate, and thanks for all the years of inspiration.

I was trying to work out the story in this video but think I lost the plot after they emerged from the dark forest into the party. It has a dream-like quality I think. One loses the plots of those too. My favourite album is still The Kick Inside.

It's a tip of the hat to Alfred Hitchcock and the horror film "Night of the Demon," which is where the "It's in the trees...it's coming" line yelled at the beginning comes from.

In the video, Kate is a scientist and she's basically kidnapped by the handsome man on the run from government agents. They try to hide at the party, she's falling in love, agrees to help him escape, the partygoers help them.

Here's to Kate! I'll never forget when I first heard that impossible voice go, "Out on the winding windy moors . . . " (on WRAS - which deserves a shout-out too) - I then began a vigil w my radio/cassette player, my hand on the record button, waiting for them to play it again . . .
