Chambliss Wins Re-election

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution called the race for Republican, right-wing, US Senate incumbent Saxby Shameless at 9 p.m. There was no way Georgia was going to vote for Democratic Jim Martin, because there's a bunch of Palin-loving, Christian crazies who live in the Georgia burbs. Ah, well...at least we have Obama. And Hillary. The long political season finally closes in Georgia. I guess all that's left is the recount in Minnesota, and Al Franken seems to have a slim lead. Is that the slowest recount in history or what?

Just FYI, I'm a Palin-disliking athiest who lives in East Atlanta, and I voted for Chambliss. I also voted for Obama. Wht Chambliss? two reasons... (i) Martin is nothing but a useless sock-puppet and (ii) I actually think a Democratic supermajority would be a bad thing, simply because NO party should have a supermajority - it makes them lazy and corrupt. Let Obama have to fight a bit to get things done... it's good discipline.

See, I don't understand voting like that. You vote for a right-wing Christian crazy who has nothing in common with your personal values just to make some kind of statement about the Dems not having a filibuster-proof majority? Makes no sense to me.

Well, if I felt Martin had something to contribute, I'd likely have voted differently. I really am quite convinced - and the historical record, thus far, agrees - that a supermajority is a VERY bad idea. Already we're seeing a bit of "bait and switch" as the Obama cabinet fills up with the same old-school insiders that have always dominated Washington - well, that's a rant for another day - but they should at least have to craft legislation well enough to hold up to checks-and-balances. Total power destroyed the Republican party... let's not see it happen with the Democratic. Even if it hurts a bit.

I think officials are recounting ballots in the the Minnesota election using an abacus, or perhaps my first Texas Instrument calculator (10 times the heft of my current phone). Thanks for the update.

No one seems to remember the tactic Chambliss used toget elected in the first place – calling Max Cleland anti-American, a man who left two legs and an arm on the battle field! I think McCain 'forgot' too.

I agree with what you said to anonymous, Collin. Why vote for someone who will not support Barak Obama? Ack.

Chambliss is so low life even John McCain termed his tactics as "reprehensible" (attack ads against Max Cleland) - now this year Chambliss slimed another Viet Vet, Martin, - that's why he's known as "Shameless" - Chuck Hagel won't even work with him - Chambliss is a country-club golfing joke who calls african-americans, "those people"
