Collin, 39 isn't mid-life! You'll find that mid-life moves up the older you get. I told you Happy Birthday on Facebook, but two proclamations for the aging gent can't hurt:-)

yes! your Jack Benny year (boomer reference) - congrats, mazel toffees and all good stuff! I'll be in Athens Sunday, but have a great reading at Java City!
Oh, and hey, here's your horoscope (courtesy of Free Will Astrology--the only horoscope worth reading) for this week. I figure you can swap out "skate" and "puck" for your own more appropriate verb and noun. "Write" and "poem", perhaps.
"I hate to lay a sports metaphor on you, Virgo, let alone one articulated by a hockey player. But it's such an apt description of the approach that will work best for you in the coming week, I had to bring it to your attention. "I skate to where the puck is going to be, not to where it has been," quoth Wayne Gretzky. Apple CEO Steve Jobs liked those words so much, he made them his own when he introduced the iPhone to the public back in January 2007. Now I hope you will find a way to apply the idea in your own sphere."
Collin, I have to agree with your other commenter and say that 39 is definitely not mid-life. Wait another ten/fifteen years or so and have the crisis then.
i love this photo of you, Capote. i can see it in some digital literary history book talking about Atlanta literati in the early 21st century.
anyhoo ... we didn't get to do a joint celebration or ritual this year. soon, we'll have to do a combined CherrylFest/Collin Bash that will leave jaws on the ground.
